The second picture is the Lovell telescope at Jodrell Bank. Sir Bernard Lovell established the facility in 1945. The Telescope, at 76 metres in diameter, is the third largest steerable radio telescope in the world. This telescope and others at the facility are used for studying pulsars, Cosmic Microwave Background radiation, gravitational lenses, active galaxies and astrophysical masers.
