Why an iPad if you have an iPhone?

The first image was from the original Star Trek pilot that introduced Christopher Pike as the captain. It was reused in a two parter where Spock steals the Enterprise and takes a badly injured Pike back to the planet which was declared off limits after the original expedition. The aliens used their mind powers to create an Eden for Pike and a female that had survived a wreck decades earlier, but was badly mishaped.

Like others I got mine for the screen size. Also, when traveling I find that my iPad is much easier to travel with as opposed to a lap top. It is a great combination to have an iPhone and an iPad. I recently jailbroke my iPhone so now I have free mobile wifi hotspot so I can use my iPad anywhere....

You can make phone calls on an iPad, but the best method, so far, is an app that you add a phone number and pay a $10 monthly fee. If you are always on the go, and take your iPad with you at all times, it can be a way to pay less, but there are no perfect solutions, because each one of us have different demands.

For eaxample, I spend less than $100/month for family phone service and unlimited iPad use. To go to any smart phone, my total would be between $170-200. My only reason to go to a smart phone is going to be lack of availabilty of a good flip phone, and replacement camera.

Line2 is an excellent app...:)

Try reading an 8.5 by 11-inch page as PDF on an iPhone.

Try using Nav on an iPhone (after you've seen it in action on an iPad).

Try lecturing from an iPhone.

Try taking a picture on an iPad.

Try putting an iPad in your pocket.

Try making a call on an iPad.

I could go on...

ps...I don't yet have an iPhone...but I plan to get either a 4S or a 5 this year.

Cargo pants are making a comeback...:D

I'm just curious to know for those who want to know how how to make calls from their Ipad, is this just something you want to add to it because you can and it would be kinda cool to know it's there if you ever need it, or are there situations you find yourself in where you don't have your mobile/cell and only have and Ipad on you to make call, what sort of situation would that be if it's the latter?

my iphone is my primary form of communication with friends, work, etc. However my iPad is my media consumption and production device. I could never make the music I make on my iPhone nor could I imagine typing long forum posts, documents, and the like on an iPhone xD

A nice " just in case" feature. I would always use my iPhone before my iPad to make calls

I would definitely enjoy watching Netflix movies on an iPad instead of on my tiny iPhone screen, and doing Facetime between the iPad and iPhone would be great for my family. I'm just curious as to what the reasons some of you got an iPad when you already had an iPhone/smartphone? I'm not much of a computer book-reader and not hugely into games (except Angry Birds!) I'm definitely a big Internet surfer, so a bigger screen for that would be nice.

I use the iPhone to steam Netflix on my tv. Like a little remote control to keep my iPad free to play with. Looks like something out of the old TV Show Sanford & Son but it works for me!! :D
