What's new

Food anyone?

So we're not the last Richard! Well that's something new!

Toad on the hole? That doesn't sound like anything I'd like to eat! ;)

I've been away so must have missed this very unusual delight!

It's sausages in batter baked in an oven. Its rather like Yorkshire pudding + sausages. It's delicious.

Yup, talking about odd food dish names, I don't like the stary fish pie. The name, and appearance are off putting!

As a kid, I asked for Welsh Rarebit in a cage, expecting a rabbit dish

EDIT.. Scifan has posted. I didn't refresh my page.
. I like Nigella Lawson's recipe. http://www.nigella.com/recipes/view/toad-in-the-hole-5163

Her batter making method is excellent :)

Thank you Gents,

That does look good .... I would certainly like to try it!

But I still don't get Toad on a hole....

Grilled some sirloin steaks and made my version of a Chipotle Burrito bowl--it was awesome, using some home grown green peppers and jalapeños! Also made home made salsa to put on the top...Yummy!! :)

Our niece and her daughter spent the afternoon with us. The family have just returned from Colombia, bearing great gifts.

Has anyone tried Arequipe?

It's similar to a soft caramel. It's made from milk and sugar. Condensed milk works well - so I'm told.

I put up our pot of Arequipe up as a "What is it" challenge, hoping that folks with South American, Latin or Spanish roots would try to guess what it was. It looks like our Hispanic etc friends don't participate in the challenge thread! ;)

Here is the Wiki page about Arequipe. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dulce_de_leche

Do try it. It's tasty. :) :)

Anything that is similar to condensed milk is or will be top of my list. Never heard of it Richard.

If you can get to a Caribbean market or shop, they may stock some. Alternatively, try the recipe. The method of making it is straightforward.
