What I see in my backyard...

I wish we still had them here....I still have a few small ones which I'll keep until New Years Eve.

We don't even have a Guy Fawkes night any more.....I remember it as a kid, so long ago now!

By small ones, you mean "squibs"? They were fun to hold in your fingers, carefully.

On both U.S. coasts, where I spend most of my time, there generally are bans on fireworks because of fire risks.

In the southern U.S., there are these giant fireworks stores along many freeways. I've always wondered who buys enough fireworks to keep the stores in business all year, and why I never see anyone shoot them off. Of course, I'm traveling through on road trips, so maybe they're waiting for me to leave to set them off. Maybe there are giant parties after I go, lol.

You must be talking about Tennessee--they have HUGE facades but if you ever stop and check them out the real building is way smaller! I stopped at one of these stores and checked it out and asked them your question. Their biggest customers are from Alabama. Because selling and buying fireworks is illegal in Alabama. Their second customers are tourist coming into their store and asking them a bunch of dumb questions and not buying anything.

Thanks! I've seen them in several southern states, but haven't ever gone in, so I'm glad you did, lol.

Not squibs, although I think I know the ones you mean.

I have bumble bees....they look like a bee and have little wings that need to be folded out so that they can fly when you light them.

Also some small rockets and wheels that need to be nailed to a wall.

also have these small stick like ones and one end is like a match head, you strike them on a matchbox and throw them real quick. And I mean real quick ;)

Growing up my friends and I were just plain nutters. We'd hold inch and a half long fire crackers (I remember them being checkered black and yellow) between our finger tips at arms length and let them blow. It's a wonder we never damaged our selves. Physically at least. ;)

It's possible to buy indoor fireworks in the UK.

For outside, sparklers are hand held and safe.

At my Preparatory School, the headmistress's family owned Borks Fireworks. We enjoyed truly amazing displays on Guy Fawkes night's.

Fireworks: If you ever get the chance to go, this is amazing, especially if you can time it so you see the fireworks competition and the jazz fest:

Montreal International Fireworks Competition 2013 - Guide to Montreal Fireworks Competition or l'International des Feux Loto-Quebec 2013

About - Festival International de Jazz de Montréal

I saw part of the fireworks competition when I was in Montreal in 2008. It's a show you don't want to miss if you ever visit Montreal.

That's beautiful, Richard! We just finished raking and cleaning our backyard too. It's not perfect, but it will have to do. We are getting fall out from two of our neighbors who does zero fall cleaning. I have also managed to pull out 2 bushes and 2 large perennials from the garden. Still a few things to do in the front hard and than done! :)

Try a leaf blower aimed in lazy neighbors' direction?

Just kidding.
