What's new

What is it?

EPS posted just in front of my challenge. (It was a photo finish :) ) I never realised until I was PM'd. So, I hold my challenge back until I get in first with a correct answer to a running challenge.

My guess re the current challenge is a winding handle for a clock, such as a grandfather clock.

Agreed to the first.
(though I'm already thinking of a coin struck to commemorate Marconi's invention of wireless telegraphy)

And the second (my challenge) has nothing to do with measuring time, though you really do need to let go in time.

It's the starting handle for a car. And yes, you do need to let go in good time to avoid being injured when the engine kicks back!

EDIT. The starting handle for an engine.

Richard, your image is the reverse of the 2001 £2.00 coin, commemorating the 100th anniversary of Marconi's first transatlantic radio transmission.

Yes, that is it exactly.

Now, if I am correct in answering ESP's challenge, I won't be able to monitor. So I suggest Scifan transmits the next one. :)

Richard, if your answer to the challenge about the handle is correct, I won't be able to monitor a challenge of my own at this time. In that case the challenge is open.

No, it is not.
There's still mine to contend with.

I know about that one, when the engine timing is off.
But it's not the correct answer. (What is it about time?)

Here's a bit more,

I was going to say an old pencil sharpener, but the length of the crank makes me think there is more torque than needed for that. An old time apple corer?

No.
But keep grinding away and eventually you'll hit the hot spot.

Another detail in close-up:

Pepper grinder?

Pepper grinder?
YES!
Quite recent too. Less than 20 years old.

I only have to fill it once a year.

It's made of copper on the outside, iron for the grinding mechanism and brass for the crank knob.

I put some duct tape around it because when I grab the bare copper with wet or sweaty hands, it literally gives me a coppery taste sensation.

You're up!

P.S.
Do I need to explain the time puns?
